Summer Hazards for your Pet
Your buddy!
Heatstroke
This deadly condition can occur quite quickly, especially in short nosed breeds, in weather as mild as 70 degrees. The windows in the car allow sun in, but heat can not escape causing temperatures to rise quickly.

If you feel your pet is having a heat related crisis, it is extremely important to seek veterinary attention immediatley.

You should provide them fresh water and cover them with wet towels, but heatstroke is a medical emergency often needing IV fluids and medications.

Food Poisoning
Yes, your pet can get food poisoning. If you think you pet has eaten these items, seek medical care immediately...

  • Molds are very toxic to pets
  • Old foods, raw meat and bones all carry organisms that can be deadly to a pet.
  • Grapes, onions and chocolate are toxic to animals.

    Sunburn
Light skinned pets can sunburn easily, especially on their face, eyes and ears. Cats with light skin can get skin cancer on their ears from too much sun. Applying sunscreen to fair skinned animals will help decrease the chances of sunburn.

    Fleas and Ticks
Ticks spread Lyme Disease and other diseases. They will also attach to people and transmit diseases to us. Fleas also transmit disease to humans. Infestation is very hard to get rid of once they are established in an environment. Fleas may also cause tapeworms. We recommened Frontline Plus for your pet.
